Your
body is a brilliant machine that draws on different
energy systems at the same time to fuel bodily
processes and enable movement. As the intensity
of exercise varies, so too does the degree of
energy that comes from different systems. At
Foreshore Fitness we use a combination of Low,
Medium and High intensity exercise to shake
your extra kilos
When
your body is at rest or low intensity exercise
is occurring, most of the energy is supplied
by the conversion of fats into usable energy
and is available for long durations. When more
intense movement is required, carbohydrates
become the fuel of choice for your body, with
around 1hr of duration available. For intense,
explosive movements, the ATP/PC system within
the muscle tissue is mainly used and is only
available for a short duration. So whilst all
energy systems are used at the same time, the
emphasis changes depending on the intensity
of movement required.
This
is where the trap lies, as many people believe
that only walking at low intensity is the best
way to burn fat, as it is the dominant fuel
system being utilised. NOT TRUE. From our basic
energy storage equation of fuel in vs fuel out,
we know that if we use more energy than is coming
in, our bodies will use stored energy. Higher
intensity exercise is very important for a weight
loss programs.
